Samsung's decision to kill the Galaxy Note 7 raises more questions than it answers

Samsung has killed off its Galaxy Note 7, but employees still can't work out what was causing the smartphones to explode

Samsung finally pulled its Galaxy Note 7 off the market yesterday, after a series of incidents involving the smartphones catching fire and exploding.

Despite the company telling customers it was "confident" it had solved the Note 7's battery problem following a worldwide recall in September, replacement models soon started suffering the same issues.

Samsung has now received at least 92 reports of Note 7 batteries overheating in the US, with 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage.

The news is catastrophic for Samsung. The company's share price has taken a pounding since news of the defect broke, with more than $18 billion (£14.6 billion) wiped off its market value.
