Nominees to the Sophia Awards 2018 and Best Poster Sophia will be known already at the end of the month

The biggest night of Portuguese cinema, the Sophia Awards ceremony, is getting closer and the nominees for the various categories of this year will be known later this month, on February 27, at a press conference with a scheduled start time for at 6:00 pm at the Cinemateca Portuguesa.


The conference will be hosted by two well-loved actors from the Portuguese public, and members of the Portuguese Film Academy, Margarida Vila Nova and Miguel Nunes, who starred in the film "Letters of War" by Ivo M. Ferreira, winner of the last year's edition of the Sophia Awards.

Before the announcement of the nominees in the various categories in the competition this year, the award for Best Poster Sophia to Luís Carlos Amaro will be presented for the first time by the poster of the film "Treblinka" by Sergio Treffaut. In second place is the poster of the film "The Forest of Lost Souls", designed by José Pedro Lopes and Francisco Lobo, and thirdly the poster of the film "Ornament and Crime" by António Antunes (Tó Tripes). The trophy will be presented by the jury of this award: Paulo Trancoso, president of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, Leonel Moura, sculptor and painter, Nuno Sá Leal, director of the Portuguese Designers Association, Igor Ramos, designer, and José Brandão, university professor and designer.

The evening will also include the revelation of the names of the honorees of this year to the Carreira Prize, which distinguishes the personalities who dedicated large years of their lives to Portuguese cinema.

This ceremony precedes the Sophia 2018 Awards, which will take place at Casino Estoril on Sunday evening, March 25th.
