Montiqueijo wins Intermarché National Production 2017 Award
Montiqueijo - a Portuguese brand that produces cheese and the only one with production from the origin - announces that its range of fresh cheese bar has just been awarded the Intermarché Production National Award in the Innovation category.
The company once again sees this product of familiar format, available in the traditional flavor, tomato & basil and rosemary, to be recognized for its originality and quality as well as for its contribution to the appreciation of the Portuguese primary sector.
"It is an honor to receive this award that dignifies our effort to bring new solutions to the table of the Portuguese. With the bar format we wanted to make the fresh cheese truly shareable and an essential element for confraternization moments and family parties and / or with friends", says Dina Duarte, general director of the company. "Tradition and innovation is in our DNA. We want to continue to innovate without ever neglecting the quality and traditional rigor of our production. We will therefore continue to invest in the development of differentiating products, with greater added value and satisfying consumption trends", concludes the official.
Manufactured in a handcrafted way, the fresh cheese bar differs in shape, size and easy way to cut, aiming the development of a new experience of fresh cheese consumption.
The official awards ceremony of the fourth edition of this initiative took place yesterday evening at the Faculty of veterinary medicine, in Lisbon.
Montiqueijo - Montemuro cheeses is a company from the west region, founded in 1963 by the couple Carlos and Ludovina Duarte, who have conquered their place in the dairy industry. The Duarte family began their activity with a small cheese factory to sell fresh cheese in Lisbon and quickly managed to impose itself, being currently one of the main Portuguese brands producing fresh cheese, cream cheese and cured cheese.
Recognized for the quality of its fresh cheeses and cured cheeses, Montiqueijo is proud to be the only brand in the sector with the complete production process circuit, that is, it has its own milk production for the manufacture of its products. In addition to the factory in Lousa (Loures), the company owns an estate in Canha (Agroleite) from where all the milk to produce cheese comes.
It has modern infrastructures and sophisticated equipment, which denote its concern with the Environment. It was therefore a pioneer to remove the girdle of its cheeses, which allowed to reduce the use of plastic in more than 50 tons per year. And it was also the first company in its sector to install a photovoltaic system that is intended for self-consumption, generating around 20% of its own solar energy and avoiding more than 162 tons of CO2 emissions in 2016.
In addition to the many prizes and certificates conquered annually, Montiqueijo received in June of this year two new gold stars of Superior Taste by the prestigious International Taste & Quality Institute - iTQi attributed to the fresh cheese in tomato & basil bar. In November 2016, it was awarded the Business Merit Award by the Loures Municipal Council for helping to create wealth and value for the municipality.
