Gestures that Change the World

TENA, a brand of SCA, a Swedish company leader in hygiene products, held on 20 October, the ceremony awards delivery of the second edition of TENA´s Competition: "Caring for Passion - Gestures that Change the World", at the Oceanarium Lisbon, Portugal.

Give prominence to caregivers and distinguished institutions with entrepreneurial and sustainable ideas that help optimize resources and at the same time, promote the welfare and integrity of the senior population living in homes and residences, was the purpose of the ceremony which included the the presence of 20 entities from various Portuguese regions.

In addition to selecting 10 finalists among the 100 participants in the various categories of the competition, three winners were announced, two in the category – "Best Sustainable Project Current", and in the category - "Best Project for a Sustainable Future". The winning institutions are:  Residência da Sabedoria da Fundação ADFP, Lar de Santo António, and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Castro Marim, Portugal.

The ceremony was attended by reference names of Geriatrics area in Portugal: Maria João Quintela, President of the Portuguese Association Psychogerontology; Manuel Carrageta, President of the Portuguese Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology and Manuel Mendes Silva, urologist.

Maria João Quintela, Jury President of the project, medical and President of the Portuguese Association Psychogerontology stressed that, "we must overcome the stigma of aging and combat all stereotypes about age," noting that "the symbolism of this ceremony goes beyond the institutional sphere, meeting the United Nations messages. It is urgent to open minds, create favorable environment for active aging, adequate health systems and provide more long-term care".
