Asus Kicks Off Computex By Announcing The ZenBook Flip S, The World's Thinnest High-End Convertible

Computex Taipei, a long-running trade show that's typically rife with bleeding-edge PC technology, is about begin. To kick off the "Day 0" festivities, ASUS announced a bevy of new systems and mobile devices, including the upcoming ZenBook Flip S (model UX370UA), which is being touted as the world's thinnest 2-in-1 convertible.

Despite its diminutive design, the ASUS ZenBook Flip S is packing some serious hardware. Multiple models will be available, featuring Intel "Kaby Lake" based processors. A Core i7-7500U resides at the high-end, while a Core i5-7200U will power a more affordable option. Paired to the processor is either 8GB or 16GB of 2133MHz memory, and storage duties are handled by 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of solid state storage, though only the top-end 1TB option leverages NVMe – the smaller drives use the slower SATA interface.

The ASUS ZenBook Flip S features a 13.3" display – 1080P or 4K UHD resolution options will be available – with wide 178 degree viewing angles, a 60Hz refresh rate, and support for 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The screens, which support touch, are protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass and feature thin, 6.11mm bezels for a sleek look. And the entire screen assembly is attached to the body of the device with what Asus is calling "ErgoLift" hinges that not only allows the screen to flip all the way around into tablet mode, but lifts and tilts-out the keyboard when opened past 135 degrees.

Other features of the machine include dual USB 3.1 ports, a full-sized backlit keyboard, a glass-covered touchpad, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a webcam, a Cortana-compatible microphone array, and Harmon Kardon-tuned 2-speaker audio. Wireless connectivity includes 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1.

Asus claims the ZenBook Flip S will offer up to 11.5 hours battery life with its 39Wh 2-cell lithium-polymer battery and that its battery will quick-charge to 60% of its capacity in only 49 minutes.

Asus crammed all of this hardware and technology into a device that's only 10.9mm thin, under 2.5lbs, and looks every bit as premium as any Ultrabook out there. Pricing on the Asus ZenBook Flip S will start at $1099 and availability is expected in September.
