Training for excellence

Majestic mountain ranges, the world's most famous pocket knives and bastionary banking are just a few of the things that come to mind when thinking about Switzerland. With its amazing cuisine, four national languages, horological eminence and more than 1.5 million cows (lots of milk, lots of chocolate), Switzerland offers an international study experience like no other. More than 50,000 international students -- more than 20 percent of the country's total student population -- choose to study in Switzerland for these reasons and more.

Many of the more alpine Swiss boarding schools have been around for well over one hundred years. Some were originally founded as boarding schools for students with lung diseases. Their relatively high altitude, exceptionally clean air and natural surrounding environments served as a perfect home for these students with breathing difficulties. Over the years, the schools have evolved beyond this niche, into 'normal' boarding schools for children from all corners of the world. Students of course, still benefit from the incredibly clean, natural and healthy environment that Switzerland has to offer.

Hospitality continues to be one of the world's most reliable industries for steady growth, expansion and innovation. Les Roches International School of Hotel Management prepares international students committed to a career in the service industries for success. Its model hospitality education programs balance theory with practice, independent learning with strong faculty support, and a foundation for lifelong learning with the skills for immediate employment and progress to leadership positions in the industry. Through international sites the Les Roches model of education is accessible to students throughout the world.

Les Roches Statement of General Purpose

Les Roches is a co-educational hospitality management school offering higher education programs that is accredited by the Commission on Institutes of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Les Roches provides instruction in English to students of any race, nationality, sex, color, religion or creed who have successfully completed a full secondary school program. We expose our students to a broad range of hospitality management courses covering the inter-related areas of the travel & tourism industry, by means of theoretical and practical work within the school and by regular periods of internship in recognized hotels, restaurants or related institutions.

Students' intellectual abilities are further developed through the general education component of the programs. Our objective is to train and educate students to a level of all round competence in the varied operations of the hospitality industry. Graduates of Les Roches, having developed competence in a range of technical, organizational and administrative skills, will be able to progress through the ranks of the management hierarchy. We develop students' abilities to initiate and manage change by confronting them with contemporary issues and challenges that the industry faces today.

The international environment at the school promotes awareness and understanding of national and cultural differences and encourages students to work together in a team to improve inter-personal skills. Graduates of Les Roches may therefore embark upon their careers with confidence, armed with knowledge, basic experience and inter-personal skills which allow them to successfully face career challenges.

What is more, the teachers are not only incredibly well-qualified and passionate but also highly abundant at these schools. Class sizes are kept very small and the ratio of students to teachers is remarkably low. Indeed, in this respect it is very clear to see where the high fees of such schools go to good use as students are truly lavished with attention and care on an academic level. Even when it comes to university placements, the schools have dedicated experts for each country of destination, working with students to insure the strength of their applications is maximized.

The long and excellent relationships Les Roches has with the industry translates into international hotel chains and companies coming on campus to interview students for internship positions as well as for permanent positions.

Many hospitality businesses have been recruiting our students semester after semester for operational or administrative internship positions.
