The beauty of handcrafted wood
Conceiving and producing bespoke furniture is not easy. The amount of manual labour involved, the customization of all pieces and the answer to the client's needs make these pieces absolutely unique, and MacMaster reflects all that on it's creations. From Coffee tables to lighting, MacMaster designs and produces a small but efficient and beautiful range of products.
Founded in 2009 by Alex MacMaster, MacMaster specialises in the design and production of timber based lighting and wood furniture products. Every single piece is hand made in England in the MacMaster workshop located in the Worcestershire countryside. With design, development, manufacture and packaging based in-house, the business is able to work closely with clients to offer a streamlined service to meet specific requirements and time schedules. MacMaster's bespoke wood furniture and products are received by a global audience from luxury homes, highly regarded retailers to ambitious commercial projects.
Bespoke furniture maker Alex MacMaster, is driven by a pursuit of absolute excellence in design and craftsmanship and he runs the workshop employing a team of highly skilled craftsmen. The environment is 'traditional meets modern' with state of the art technology side by side with 1970's, Wadkins and Sedgewick cast iron machinery, which has been lovingly restored to their former glory.
MacMaster is pleased to work with corporate clients, and communicates closely with architects and interior designers to furnish domestic and commercial settings. As expert wood furniture makers, the company's expertise includes phases from concept generation, through to design development, prototype and production. We have found this hands-on approach gives a deeper insight into the intricacies and challenges of bringing bespoke wood furniture products to market.
Alex designs for maximum output and minimum waste with some products using leftover materials from other ranges. This demonstrates an ecological awareness in line with best modern practices and adheres to ecological values and principles. The products, whilst technically challenging, are hand-produced using exacting techniques learnt and adapted from the world's finest traditional craftsmen and bespoke wood furniture makers.
MacMaster uses natural timbers hand-picked from suppliers who source Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timbers. FSC is an international non-government organisation set up to promote the responsible management of the World's forests. Timber is globally regarded as one the most beautiful, versatile and naturally renewable resources.
Bloom Pendant Light
The Bloom pendant light is made entirely from 100% FSC and PEFC certified Birch Plywood's and is available as standard in natural Birch or stained Scarlet Red finishes. The light radiates through and along the thin ply creating a graduated display of luminescence. The Bloom range act as effective down lights whilst the lateral light emits a soothing warmth that when displayed individually or in a group make a stunning atmospheric statement.
Expose Coffee Table
The Expose coffee table consists of complex laminations of birch ply and wood veneer which interlock at angles to form a three-point leg structure that supports a toughened glass top.The birch ply is left exposed on the edges forming a pleasing contrast with the surface veneer and ensuring that the design remains true to its materials.
Iris Chest of Drawers
The Iris Chest of Drawers is an elegant set of 10 drawers each graduating in in size from top to bottom. The drawer fronts use the profile of the Iris leaf running through to act as the handle. This profile is highlighted in stained black Sycamore to contrast with the light Fiddle-back Sycamore front.
This is a piece of Art that showcases the best of British craftsmanship with hand cut dovetail joints on each drawer and no expense sparred to source the finest timbers. First designed and made in 2008 by Alex MacMaster this piece has been reintroduced as a Limited edition of 5. Each piece to be made to the client's precise specification, dated, signed and numbered.
