Swidish Culture

Founded by Anders Färdig, Design House Stockholm started as a creative product development company for other brands in 1992. Using his vast knowledge in design management from prior experience managing companies such as Boda Nova and Höganäs, Färdig created a network of independent designers that remains the platform from which we operate today.

In 1997 the Design House Stockholm product collection was launched, starting with Harri Koskinen's Block Lamp that immediately became a worldwide success. The Block Lamp has remained one of our top selling products to this day, and is represented in MoMA's permanent design collection.

We have distinguished ourselves as a publisher of design rather than a conventional producer, working in the same way with designers that publishing houses work with authors. Rather than selecting a designer to make a specific product, all designers are invited to bring their personal ideas, of which some are selected for development and production. We look for products that add something new to their genre, products with personality and character. Our collection does not have any specified boundaries - if a product is considered good enough and realistic to produce, we develop it. No matter if it is a mug, a chair, a couture collection or a piece of jewelry. The ambition is to be a mirror of the very best Scandinavian design today - the term 'Scandinavian' referring to a philosophic and aesthetic perspective, rather than geography and nationality. To gather a collection of design classics with timeless appeal and qualities that outlives temporary trends. These are the foundations of Design House Stockholm.

Designers
Jesper Ståhl runs his own design studio in Jönköping in southern Sweden, working in a broad field of assignments, ranging from furniture and lighting to gym equipment and award winning drum kits.

Jesper has a degree in innovation engineering as well as a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Art in London

Jesper Ståhl's Stockholm cutlery combines streamlined matte-polished steel with smooth black handles.

"It's the ultimate design project. It involves the functional aspects of ergonomics and production, to find the right balance and weight. But also artistic expression - strong visual, emotional and tactile qualities. It's a collection of everyday jewellery."

The Stockholm cutlery collection is made of stainless steel and POM (polyoxymethylene), an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts that require high stiffness, low friction and excellent dimensional stability. Jesper Ståhl has also designed a cutlery tray in bamboo, specially for his Stockholm collection.

Over 60 independent designers are part of our network; including internationally known names such as A&E Design, Signe Persson-Melin, Monica Förster, Nina Jobs, Ann Wåhlström and Form Us With Love. We also have distinguished ourselves by often choosing young, promising designers in addition to more established names, putting talent before name dropping. Several young designers have contributed with their degree projects to our collection, such as Lina Nordqvist's Family chairs, Anna Bonnevier's Numb collection, Jonas Hakaniemi's Box Light, and not least Block Lamp by Harri Koskinen. All made by then unknown but very talented people, all now awarded with some of the most prestigious design awards, all now modern classics.
