Sweet Brazil

Chocolates Garoto is one of the ten largest chocolate factory in the world and the largest in Latin-America. The company has a panoply of about 70 products, exported to over 60 countries. Their greatest success are the Caixa Amarela – "Yellow Box", the Baton chocolates, and the bonbon "Serenata de Amor" – "Love Serenade".

<

It was 1929, and German immigrant Heinrich Meyerfreund founds H. Meyerfreund & Cia. Fábrica de produção de balas (H. Meyerfreund & Cia. Candy Production Factory) in a town called Vila Velha, in the Espírito Santo state. The candy was sold by boys in the streets, and soon, the candy was known by the consumers as exactly that: "garoto", which means "kid" or "boy" in Portuguese, thus giving the company its name: Garoto.

In 1934, Henrich Meyerfreund used his parents' heritage to buy machines for the production of chocolates. Two years later, he was able to put together a more modern factory in the Bairro da Glória, where it remained to this day. This new chocolate production department gave the company a new development phase, and they even started to sell outside the states borders!

The ever growing cycle of prosperity of the factory was only interrupted in the time of the WWII. Because he was German, H. Meyerfreund was detained and the factory was run by Brazilian Federal Officials. After the War ended, the company returned to its continued growth rhythm.

In 1962 a major loss occurred, when Günther Zennig, who had come into the company, capitalizing it and bringing a new corporate vision, died in an airplane crash. It is in this same year that Meyerfreund became a joint stock company, and was now named Chocolates Garoto S/A. In the same decade, Heinrich Meyerfreund's sons, Helmut e Ferdinand, started to share responsibilities with their father, who died later in 1973, passing on the presidency of Garoto to Helmut.

In the 1990's, the company continuously invested in technology, launching new products, and consolidating the commercial structure of Garoto. In 1989, a distribution center was opened, to attend the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul, and in 2013, Garoto became the official chocolate of the Confederation Cup 2013 and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

1949 marks the birth of thins delicious bonbon. The crunchy wafer and the cashew nut creamy filling combined perfectly with a delicious chocolate covering. It brings a romantic phrase or proverb in the inside of the wrapping paper, to give to your loved ones and to bring you closer to them.
