Quintessentialy British

As one of the famous fashion streets in London, England, Jermyn Street is one of the places to go if you want high quality clothes for men. Today there is more than garments on Jermyn Street. Hotels, restaurants and a myriad of services chose this perfectly british street for their shops and offices.

<

History

In 1661 Henry Jermyn, Earl of St. Albans and former Ambassador to Paris and The Hague obtained a grant of Crown land from Charles II to develop a residential neighbourhood in the area known as St James's Field.

St. James's Square was the first development undertaken by Henry Jermyn, and was to be surrounded by approximately fourteen grand houses, with four streets – King Street, Charles Street, Duke Street and York Street – leading from it.

The newly completed development flourished and became a fashionable address from the outset. More building work followed and by the time of Jermyn's death in 1683, the fabric of the area was virtually complete. From this time, Henry Jermyn was regarded as the true founder of London's West End.

In its early days Jermyn Street was more residential than commercial. It was a bustling scene of houses, lodgings, hotels, taverns and schools, which was dominated by the beautiful Church of St. James's designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Inside the church, visitors can admire the fine carvings on the altar and organ case, which were designed by Grinling Gibbons.

In its 300-year history Jermyn Street has always retained its distinctive character. This applies to the ambience of the street, the services it offers, and to the shops and businesses and the people who own and run them. Inevitably there have been changes in the architecture over the years, with the old houses converted into shops and some facades modernized. However, much of the original essence of Jermyn Street lingers on and it still provides a quintessentially British experience.

Today

There are a lot of shops on Jermyn Street, some of which have become renowned all over the world for their service and quality.

One of the most notorious is Alfred Dunhill, who has been resident at 48 Jermyn Street since 1906, welcoming iconic customers such as Winston Churchill. The brand has become synonymous as the ultimate British luxury brand for men; defined by elegance and innovation, Alfred Dunhill is committed to using the finest materials and world's greatest artisans to create its uncompromising products.

It's possible to stay in hotels in the Jermyn Street area. Some of the most famous in London are located here, such as The Cavendish, which is perfect for business and leisure and offers the ultimate in luxury and convenience for visitors to the UK's Capital, whether for business or for pleasure. The Hotels Petrichor Restaurant is a recipient of 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence serving modern British Cuisine.

And if you want to try something different, there are restaurant choices for every taste.

Rowley's Restaurant, for example is a St James' institution, famed for a range of delicious steak and grill dishes upon which it has built a 36-year reputation as one of the capital's finest steak restaurants.
Having opened back in 1976, Rowley's Restaurant has long been famed for its house speciality of mouth-watering Entrecôte Steak and the restaurant's secret herb, Roquefort and butter sauce.

But Jermyn street isn't only known for its lavishing shops, hotels and restaurants. A huge number of companies and services is present in the area as well.

Accounting companies, recruiters, property consultants and management offices, can also be found on Jermyn Street and the surrounding area, making this one of London's central places.
