Headquartered in heart of Holland, Holland Milk is a global specialised producer, developer and supplier of infant formula powders and related products.
Holland Milk is a 100% family owned and managed business with deep roots in Amersfoort, the dairy hub of Holland. Along with Holland Milk, Amersfoort enjoys the presence of one of word's largest infant formula and dairy companies and the Netherlands Controlling Unit for Milk Products (COKZ) both headquartered a stone throw away from Holland Milk.
Holland Milk is known for the premium brand AMA (Amersfoortse Melk Associatie) throughout the world. In addition, the company produces infant formula for a select group of other international businesses. The product range comprises of infant formulas based on both cow and goat milk. All products can be produced organically.
Ever since the foundation of Holland Milk BV, the brand's target is rigorous quality standards and the usage of only the best ingredients. The company and partners have a history in the production of infant formulas and the products are made with the assistance of some of the most experienced people of the Dutch dairy industry and only highly skilled food nutritionists create the formulas.
The Netherlands have a long history of dairy production, with the first forms of dairy production and processes dating back to the Middle Ages. When fresh milk was not used instantly and without means to keep the milk fresh, it was processed into cheese to lengthen its shelf life.
Holland has always had abundant supplies of grass highly suitable for the grazing of cows. Between the 13th and 16th centuries there was a boom in the dairy industry with cheese being one of the most important forms of dairy.
At that time, Dutch people already used the Friesian cow, the famous black and white cow that has always been typical to Holland. These Dutch cows are still the most productive type of cow used in almost every dairy farm in the world.
At the end of the 19th century the first dairy factories started to pop up. The gathering of multiple farmers into coops resulted in early increased production efficiency and increased knowledge of their products. The foundation of Holland as a global specialist in dairy was laid.
Over the course of the 20th century supervising bodies such as the COKZ emerged controlling and maintaining the high quality standards of the milk production. With arguably the most stringent quality control of dairy products in the world, Holland still enjoys a reputation as a dairy producer of highly nutritious and extremely safe milk products.
The facilities comply with strict regulations of the Dutch dairy authorities (COKZ). Together with the partner, the blender and packager of the formulas, a strong alliance has been built to be successful in this complicated but dynamic marketplace.
In 2001 a new plant was erected on a 50.000m2 surface. These new facilities have a warehousing capacity of 45.000m2 and an annual packing capacity of 60.000 metric tons.
Ever since 1922, when the partner was founded, there has been much activity in warehousing and logistics, first using horses, and later, boats. Since the 1960's this has been replaced with trucks and activities in the fields of milk powders were started.
Product safety, hygiene and quality are Holland Milk's top priorities when it comes to producing infant formulas. All processes and procedures, both administrative and on the production floor have these priorities in mind.
In a closed powder transport system are magnets, filters and metal detectors to prevent any possible signs of contamination. All incoming and outgoing raw materials and end products are microbiologically tested. A selection of every batch will be tested for the remaining oxygen levels. The production is certified to pack under the E-norm.
All this guarantees that Holland Milk can supply products with COKZ verification and the products have HACCP, BRC and GMP+ certificates. The brand has been able to supply SKAL certified organic products for many years.
