PANTONE - Living Coral: Color of the year 2019

"Animated and full of life, a coral with a 'golden undertone', that energizes". "This is the year color reference for 2019" 16-1546, Living Coral.

Pantone is a company implemented in the United States of America in New Jersey, known for their color system used in the printing industry. The company initially worked for cosmetic companies, but quickly in the mid 60's widened to the focus that is used nowadays.

Basically, Pantone develops color palettes helping professionals in the graphic world, so that they can acquire the desired colors with specific codes that Pantone assigns, and thus decide how to print or publish the output. The company may be instructed to produce a certain product only with a color code without being displayed visually. The brand has codes and names for every color you can imagine, and even colors that never thought to exist.

Having a firm position and becoming a "universal language of the most famous colors in the world," there are legislations for Pantone colors, such as flags of countries or international brands, that they always have to maintain the colors whenever it is printed or placed digitally, such as social networks or on websites. One example is the Scottish flag discussed by the Parliament of Scotland, as well as the color of the Coca-Cola brand that has their own pantone set.

Software programs working on computers such as Creative Cloud from Adobe are already using the pantone system, to make it easier for professionals and designers. Often the pantone color palette that we see "with the naked eye" may won't match the color that we see through the equipment and should therefore configure the printing equipment (CMYK, 4-color system - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) or for digital image (RGB - red, green and blue).

Over the years, in mid-2000's, Pantone has been growing and gaining global strength in the language of color standards, and today marketing initiatives have "borne fruit": Pantone Institute of Color, Pantone Hotels, Cafes, Pantone merchandising like mugs, keyboards, shoes among other products.

The "Pantone color of the year" is also the responsibility of the company, which is chosen each year in the last month of the previous year to highlight the following year, and it is already defined: Living Coral 16-1546. The pantone 2019 color came "lively and full of life that energizes and enlivens a soft and vibrant tone that welcomes us with warm and nutritious aura."

This color came to answer the present, despite the technology and social that are part of day-life. With the "boom" of social networks, Pantone opted for a color that could radiate familiarity, life and nature itself. Color portrays the balance of natural realities, because consumers crave for more human connections and social interactivity.  Living Coral brings the harmony that people want to transmit without the influence of technologies. Their main purpose is showing hidden colors underneath the ocean.

Through Pantone's year colors many brands are influenced to create products and purchasing decisions in industries such as fashion, furniture, decoration and interiors, industrial design, product design and graphic design. This choice is a process that requires thoughtful decisions from a trend analysis. In order to arrive to the "ideal" choice, the Pantone Color Institute searches the whole world, in order to look and find more colors and patterns.
