Lights, Sound, Glamour

The Lido is a cabaret and burlesque show located on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France. It opened in 1946, famous for its exotic shows including dance, singing and other perofromers.

Founded by Joseph and Louis Clérico, Le Lido opened on June 20, 1946. Le Lido was preceded by a artificial beach in a townhouse basement in the 1920s, running as a nightclub/casino in the late night hours.

In 1955, after a visit by the entertainment director of the Stardust Resort and Casino, the Clérico brothers along with Donn Arden brought the Lido to the Stardust. This started a series of imports of Parisian cabaret shows to Las Vegas, Follies Bergeres to the Tropicana, Nouvelle Eve to El Rancho and Casino de Paris to the Dunes. The Stardust edition of Le Lido closed in 1992.

Le Lido moved in 1977 to the Normandie on the Champs-Élysées.

In 2006, Sodexo, the international food service company, purchased Le Lido and has invested 24 million euro into developing its next show

Each version of Le Lido is made up of 10-20 scenes. The last version of the show, Bonheur, ran for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Two shows are run every day of the week.A pre-show dinner is offered with the first evening show of each day at an additional cost.

Scenes over the years have featured exotic themes like ancient Egypt, Aztecs and in the current version of the show (2014) "Bonheur", a Bollywood, Indian numbers features an elephant, show boys dressed as Ganesh the elephant god and dancing fountains. The closing number often features a number called "Merci Beaucoup" (featured in the television show Shirley Maclaine at The Lido de Paris) and usually has some particularly spectacular costumes.

Despite its reputation as a tourist mecca many locals, business people and celebrities can be found at the Lido.

Among the last of its kind The Lido has a special place in the history of nightclubs and floorshows and continues a tradition of the "haughty but nice" opulent production shows originally started by The Follies Bergeres.

DINNER BY THE CHEF PHILIPPE LACROIX

The Dinner Show was invented here. And it is always within these walls, where it was born, that it is done with the most style. When in Paris, be won over by the charm of our French-style shows and savour the treats for which our gastronomy has become internationally famous.

Chef Philippe Lacroix, is the one who teases the taste buds. A member of the Académie Culinaire de France, the Académie Nationale de Cuisine, and a disciple of Escoffier, Philippe Lacroix joined Paris and the Lido in 1980. A great adventure which has continued and matured over 30 years. He is now the Head Chef in charge of a team of 35 cooks and pastry chefs, who serve 190,000 covers a year for the greatest pleasure of all the guests!

FROM 1946 TO THE PRESENT DAY

After the War, Léon Volterra sold the lease for the Lido to two brothers: Joseph and Louis Clérico.

They immediately undertook major works and turned it into a temple for large-scale variety shows. On the 20th of June 1946, the stage glittered with the soon to become legendary beauty of the dancers, the radiant costumes and the elegant attractions. The cabaret was catapulted to the pinnacle of the world.

Recognised everywhere, always greeted with great fervour, the Lido's variety shows were praised to the skies by critics. Some even went so far as to proclaim that "foreigners and French people visiting Paris firstly visited the Eiffel Tower and the Lido, where they were guaranteed to enjoy a prestigious show which was unique in the world". The Lido became a legend.

A living legend which constantly reinvented itself. In 1977, the Lido took over the Normandie at 116 Avenue des Champs Élysées. Magnificently designed and decorated by the architects Peynet, Bartoccini and Veccia, the venue became the largest and most luxurious cabaret in Europe and even in the world.
