Leaders in gem beauty

Though the global history of diamonds dates back around 3.3 billion years when these treasured stones were first formed by high pressure and heat deep within the earth's crust, the South African story of these gems only began in 1867 with their local discovery.

<

It's a tale of enchantment, wealth, fire and beauty, and it's certainly a universally significant one as since it was first established that South Africa's soil is rich with sparkling crystals, the country has made an indelible mark on the world's diamond industry, becoming one of the leading producers on the planet.

HISTORY

The existence of every Shimansky jewellery creation owes itself to founder, designer and creator, Yair Shimansky. After embarking on a career in the jewellery industry in Japan as a young man, Yair started his own business selling jewellery at a Durban market. His next step was a barrow in The Pavilion Shopping Centre in Westville, and he opened his first store in 1994.

In just two decades, Shimansky has expanded to include several jewellery stores located throughout South Africa (Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban), a jewellery design and manufacturing workshop, a diamond cutting and polishing factory, and Cape Town's only dedicated Diamond Museum based in the Clock Tower Precinct, at the Waterfront.

Today, Shimansky is one of South Africa's most recognised jewellery brands. A result of hard work, dedication and passion.

DIAMONDS & TANZANITE

Shimansky has a license to buy and polish rough diamonds – unique amongst jewellers. This ensures that only the finest, hand-picked diamonds are chosen for all of Shimansky's designer diamond jewellery creations including: diamond engagement rings, wedding bands, earrings and pendants.

The journey of a Shimansky diamond begins with an uncut stone sourced direct from South African mines. Carefully selected, each diamond is transformed into a creation of fire and light in Shimansky's diamond cutting and polishing workshop in Cape Town.

Now imagine a gemstone so exquisite that it radiates a hundred hues of velvet blue and sensual violet from every facet. A gemstone so precious, it is found only in one place on earth. So extraordinarily rare, that in a single generation, there will be no more. Tanzanite stones are used in all forms of jewelery and in some cases it has been chosen to replace diamond earrings, rings and necklaces.

Shimansky sources top quality, certified Tanzanite in accordance with the Tanzanite International Grading Standard, guaranteeing the best quality Tanzanite in the world. Shimansky's Tanzanite jewellery collection, Ayanda – The Queen of Tanzanite, is comprised of beautiful Tanzanite jewellery set with diamonds in contemporary designs, including Tanzanite rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets.

Only the finest precious metals are used in Shimansky's diamond and Tanzanite jewellery designs. Yair Shimansky pioneered the use of platinum in jewellery in South Africa, which established his media reputation as the "Platinum King". Only the purest platinum (Pt950), and finest South African gold (18K white, yellow and rose gold) is used in every Shimansky jewellery creation.
