IMPROVING AIR QUALITY
In 1876, Willis Haviland Carrier was hired by a printing industry to solve the problems of temperature change in the factory. The American engineer and inventor developed a project that would give rise to the first humidifier and later to the first air conditioner in history.
Even today, Carrier Corporation is one of the leading companies among air conditioners brands.
The original equipment heated water to humidify the air, this is the simplest operation. The appliances which maintain this formula, boil water by releasing steam in the room. Although this operation is the simplest and the most economical, there are others, such as the impeller, which transforms the water into small droplets that float in the air, which when ejected create a kind of mist in the air; or the ultrasonic, which has similar results to the previous one, but achieved through a metal diaphragm that vibrates on an ultrasonic frequency, creating small drops of water that result in a fresh haze.
What are the advantages of a humidifier? If you suffer from allergies, bronchitis or asthma, this appliance can be very useful in places where humidity is very low – which increase the effects of respiratory allergies.
To obtain optimum conditions of comfort when breathing, moisture levels should be close to 60%, essential to allow the body to eliminate impurities from the air. These average levels can be difficult to maintain in areas of low humidity or in warmer months, these appliances are the perfect solution.
Fortunately, these days, you do not have to stick to keeping an eyesore in the centre of your room or living room to improve air quality and prevent allergy attacks. The modernization of Carrier's original idea allows for a lasting marriage with Muji's minimalist design.
This small name is an abbreviation of Mujirushi Ryohin, meaning "quality products without a brand". The objective is a rational and concise manufacturing process, giving rise to products of maximum universality.
The humidifier created by designer Kazushige Miyake reflect the intentions of the company: simple, easy to transport and use, and can be used anywhere.
It is an ultrasonic humidifier, which in addition to its main function can still be used with essential oils increasing the feeling of well-being. This new design presents a higher apparatus than the previous one by adding a fine chimney, through which the particles will be expelled of water. This way, the reach of the apparatus is superior and avoids the accumulation of water under the equipment.
This is not the first product Miyake creates for the brand, which is revealed in its ability to reflect the purposes of the Muji service. This humidifier is another example of a minimalist, modern accessory, accessible, without neglecting the convenience of daily use.
