HORNSKOV KØBENHAVN

We all know the importance of an impeccable appearance in the business world. More and more, we see astonishing hair and beard cuts, combined with beautiful ties and suits and shirts and shoes.

<

But, unlike what was happening during the second half of the 20thcentury, these are not the only accessories a man can use to get a distinguished look. Hats are back and they are changing the look of men. And for the better, we might add.

Outside of England – where is easy to find the best hat manufacturers in the world –, however, it's not easy to find nice hats; with the right size and colour. And this was the dilemma of Peter Robert Hornskov, a young Danish entrepreneur who (his closest friends say), always wore hats.

Instead of crossing arms before the difficulty to obtain a hat that suited his liking, Peter decided to learn the art of manufacturing hats and, in that course, besides the videos he found in Youtube, he also coursed a workshop with master hatters in England.

And, with the help and support of his wife, Cathrine, he founded, in 2015, Hornskov Kobenhavn.

The adventure started with a small workshop mounted inside their own house, but the produced models rapidly became known and the commissions arrived at a dizzying pace. Such that, the company had to find a space where they could work all the activity connected to production, finishing and marketing (both local and virtual) of the hats.

Currently, under the motto of respect for the traditional arts of hatmaking, each Hornskov hat is totally handmade in the workshop of the brand in the island of Christianshavn, in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. The aim (fully achieved) is to supply hats of the highest quality, which last for generations, and comply the finest details, according to the consumer's requests.

The models are inspired in well-known classics, such as the Fedora, Homburg or Bowler (with a coconut shape), slightly upgraded. And the materials are the finest choice: pure merino wool, rabbit fur felt and beaver wool felt. All with internal completion of breathable natural leather stripe, protected with a thin silk ribbon.

For the moment, the company isn't stuck for the production of a high quality and excellence product. Because Peter always an extreme care with the distinguished accessory that always walked with him and, therefore, he passes his knowledge to his customers.

Meaning each piece is partnered with a simple maintenance and/or adjustment manual for the hat.

The first step to keep your hat within shape is to take very good care for the brim, which can cause deformation or breakings in the shape, according to the conditions it's submitted. Also because of that, these hats are resistant to the harshest weather conditions.

In case it's submitted to intense rain, for instance, Peter advises to lay down the hat in rest, in its original form and local temperature, without using and heat source to accelerate the drying process. And he adds some precious tips (says I, who regularly use a hat).

It's fundamental to brush the hat regularly using a soft brush so it won't scratch the fabric, and always in the opposite clockwise direction. In the eventuality of it gaining stains or being too tight for your head's perimeter, do not use more than water steam.

Place water to boil and expose it upside down. In the case of satins, let it absorb the water steam and brush it until the stain comes out. In case of tightening, after absorbing the steam, place it back in your head and pull it until the desired position and let it cool of in that position.

Future projects? Sure. Women's markets.
