HOME COMFORT IN THE OFFICE
Considered rising stars of European design, the French Bouroullec have developed a range of furniture for Vitra that allows to feel home warmth in the office.
For you that have always wanted to work in an office that gives the feeling of being at home, this month Your Vip Partner presents the Cyl system. It was developed by the French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra brand, following a collaboration that began in 2000.
Cyl system features tables and sofas that stand out for their simplicity. The pieces of furniture are made of wood and are distinguished by their minimalist look. According with Ronan Bouroullec, this collection was «originally conceived for the home». However, soon the designers realized its potential to become office furniture, thus bringing home features to the work world. Ronan says that this system «fosters a welcoming atmosphere in the office world».
Create additional space
The cylindrical legs of tables and sofas immediately arouse attention. The design was strategically thought to allow some pieces to be stacked on top of each other and to create additional shelves and storage space. The finishes in black and natural wood offer a harmonious contrast. At desk, and if the worker wishes so, it is possible to add screens that will give greater privacy. The sofas have side and back panels that, available in various sizes, can for example offer more closed and private seats.
Cyl system was recently presented at Orgatec, following a Vitra installation. Orgatec was an initiative that, between October 25th and 29th, presented in Cologne concepts and inspiring solutions for the work environment.
Flexible and versatile furniture
Joyn marked the beginning of Bouroullec brothers collaboration with Vitra. It is a furniture system that, developed between 2000 and 2002, brings to the modern office dynamism and flexibility. In 2004, Ronan and Erwan created the one that is designated by Vitra as the most unconventional design, the Algue. It is made of plastic elements that, available in various colors, resemble plants and, through several and simple connections, result in transparent curtains or room dividers.
The creators developed, also, Workbays 90 Studio, Physis, which privileges communication, teamwork or privacy. It is versatile and therefore structures and orders space by creating a "home" within the office itself. The interior of this system adapts easily to the requirements and needs.
Studio in Paris
Ronan Bouroullec and Erwan Bouroullec are brothers and work together for about 20 years. The creations they present result from a permanent dialogue between theirs different personalities. They want to achieve, in every design, balance and elegance.
In addition to furniture, they work in other fields such as jewelery, architecture, crafts, drawing, video or photography. They have collaborated with several renowned companies. From their studio in Paris, where a team of about eight people works, pieces have been carried out to permanent collections of international museums. Bouroullec name has been exhibited, for example, in renowned spaces such as the Design Museum in London, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Center Pompidou Metz in France, the Art Museum Chicago and the Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Bouroullec brothers are considered emerging stars of European design as well as promising industrial designers. Their work reflect feeling and functionality, displaying characteristics that easily allow to identify the creators. Jasper Morrison, a British designer, describes the Bouroullec style as "thoughtful and disciplined, with real spirit and poetry".
