Golden Armenia

Armenians are one of the most ancient peoples of the world. Their arts date back to thousands of years. However, the Armenian arts, as such, took their own national features in the Middle Ages due to the development of architecture, music, literature, fine and applied arts (jewelry, pottery, rug and carpet making).

Armenia is a country without many mineral fuels, is known for its diamond processing industry. The industry was established during the Soviet era and is considered one of the traditional sectors of Armenia's economy. After the collapse of the USSR in 1991, the production declined gradually, but was later recovered with the investments from the Armenian diaspora. In 1999, the diamond industry provided about 30% of total manufacturing exports from Armenia. The industry started to show some slow decline again in mid-2000s, because of increase in the cost of production instruments and increase of output in Chinese and Indian markets.

Today, over 50 diamond-cutting companies operate in Armenia. The estimated number of people involved in the industry is about 3,000 to 4,000. Some of the advantages of Armenia in diamond-cutting industry are the presence of a large number of ethnic Armenian jewelers abroad, who are willing to invest in the country and in its access to Russian and international markets.

"Mina De Oro" has begun its history in 2007. Despite of its young age, the company has become a bright, fast-growing jewelry enterprise. The unique distinction of "Mina De Oro" is its specialization in jewelry production of high grade gold, with diamonds and precious stones of the first group.

The dynamic development, the implementation of new technologies, the creation of new collections, and the daily work of highly skilled professionals are directed to please our customers with the jewelry of different stylistic tendencies. Professionalism, the latest technologies and creative potential of our employees are the basis of industrial activities of the jewelry company "Mina De Oro".

In 1998, the Armenian Jewelers Association (AJA) was founded by Armenian jewelers from around the world. Its mission is to "promote Armenian jewelers globally. Bringing together Armenian Jewelers and developing the jewelry industry in Armenia is a mission of great importance.

Gagik Gevorgyan, president of the Armenian Jewelers' Association and the Russian Jewelers' Guild Association, says:
"There are several countries in the world that are famous with their jewelry production quality level, and Armenia is one of them. We believe Armenian jewelers have a high level of professional quality work and great potential. Armenia's geographic location has a potential to connect Asia and Europe, which itself is a great potential. Moreover, Armenia is the only country in the world where the state celebrates the Jeweler's Day, which is the last Sunday of October. This is when our organization holds Yerevan Show. There is great interest to this show and this year we are hosting people from 25 countries. We attach importance to educating skilled jewelers, and for this purpose AJA has signed a cooperation memo with the ministry of education of Armenia. The goal of this policy is boosting this sector and educating highly qualified specialists in Armenia."

Present industry growth

The results of the first 6 months of 2011 compared to the same period of 2010 show 6,5% growth in the field of jewelry industry with total AMD4,7 billion product realization.

Hayk Mirzoyan, Head of Industry Issues Department of Armenian Ministry of Economy told journalists in Yerevan that export growth of total AMD4,4 billion is also registered.

Within the frames of Armenian Jewelers Association exhibition, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia's independence, Yerevan hosted "The role of AJA in integrating Armenia's jewelry industry into the international society of jewelers" conference. The conference addressed issues of collaboration between Armenia's state structures and leading Armenian jewelry companies.

"We hope that the exhibition and the conference will enable Armenian jewelers to better familiarize themselves with Armenia's investment and business spheres, with it undergoing considerable changes in terms of opening new production lines," he emphasized.

Famous Armenian Jewelers from USA, Canada, Switzerland, Russia, France, Italy, Thailand, Lebanon and other countries take part in the three-day exhibition. Well known jewelry brands, belonging to the country's Diaspora compatriots, such as Estate, Haytayan, Bergio, Tacori, Waskol, Yesayan Jewellery expressed willingness to participate in Yerevan Show.
