From steel to sustainability

Aperam South America integrates the Aperam Group. It is the sole producer of flat-rolled stainless and electrical steels in Latin America, and it also produces flat-rolled special carbon steels. It is the leading company in the Brazilian market. With 2.4 thousand employees, its installed capacity is around 900 thousand tons of liquid steel.

In addition to its plant in Timóteo, the offices in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Aperam South America has partnerships with other divisions of Aperam Group in Brazil, such as Aperam Services & Solutions - with distribution units in São Paulo, Caxias do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul state) and Campinas (São Paulo state) -, and the units for manufacturing and distribution of tubes in Ribeirão Pires and Sumaré (both in São Paulo state).

Aperam Bioenergia produces charcoal from planted eucalyptus forests. Its operations are in the mesoregion of Jequitinhonha Valley, in the North of Minas Gerais state, with an annual installed capacity of 1.4 million m³ and with the potential of reaching 2.2 million m³ in the coming years. Its production supplies the Blast Furnaces of the plant located in Timóteo

Production

Aperam produces three families of steel products.

Flat-Rolled Stainless Steels are used in the areas of construction, transport, white goods, health, food, capital goods, tableware and cutlery, among others.
Flat-Rolled Electrical Steels, consisting of GO (grain oriented), NGO (non grain oriented) and HGO (super-oriented grain) lines, present excellent magnetic properties and guarantee higher efficiency to electric equipment. They are mainly used in the transformers, electric motors and power generators industries.
The company also produces Flat Special Carbon Steels: used in the machinery, agricultural implements and tools industries, as well as in the re-rolling sector.

Bioenergy

Aperam BioEnergia focuses its business on the production and commercialization of charcoal, wood, seeds and saplings derived from renewable eucalypt forests in Minas Gerais. The company enforces the transparency of its actions while developing its activities, establishing a close relationship with stakeholders, as well as in its advances towards improving local and regional socio-environmental quality.

The company believes in continuous process improvement and allocates high investments towards its development. Due to its increasingly advanced practices, the company activities exert the minimum environmental impact possible. Furthermore, several programs such as biodiversity monitoring, hydric monitoring in order to evaluate water quality and the influence of company activities on this resource, the degraded area recovery program, waste recycling and reuse initiatives, as well as carbon credit projects are put into place on a daily basis as part of the Aperam BioEnergia activities.

The communities within company surroundings are also very valued; social programs developed in partnerships with the Fundação Aperam Acesita towards education, culture and income generation have brought extremely beneficial results both for the communities and for the company. All positive results are also yielded by the good work of each employee.

Social awareness

Aperam South America has a very special way of being present in the locations that host its activities. Through Aperam Acesita Foundation, the social-educational, environmental and economical development is promoted in a complete and sustainable manner, by working with the community. The company works with own and third parties' programs - one of its focuses is 'Education for Citizenship' - and its intervention strategy is assisting and monitoring projects.

In order to ensure sustainability in the region where it operates, Aperam South America seeks to strengthen its relationship with society. Therefore, the Company promotes several social responsibility actions in the Steel Valley (Vale do Aço), notedly in the city of Timóteo, and Jequitinhonha Valley, where it supports actions developed by Aperam Bioenergia - responsible for the production of charcoal to supply the Plant in Timóteo. The objective is to promote quality of life as well as integrated and sustainable development in the communities.

Aperam Acesita Foundation works in partnership with public agencies, and with national and international institutions through its own programs or by supporting initiatives of associations already constituted in the region. The four areas – Culture, Education, Environment and Social Promotion – work together in multidisciplinary proposals and as complementary work fronts.
