Dairy with an Atlantic taste

The Azores is not only a well preserved and beautiful archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic, but also the home of LactAçores, a cooperatives union set to increase and expand the islands' biggest agricultural asset: dairy products.

Since it was set up Lactaçores was known for its emphasis on quality. A strict quality control and safety system means the institution is seen as supplier of excellence.

The consumer has always been offered a range of top quality products with the genuine Azores flavor, made by methods that combine local know-how and traditions with the highest food safety standards.

Lactaçores is now at a crucial stage in its life. In addition to consolidating market positions that it has already won, it is also taking up new positions through both its internationalization policy and the decision to bring innovation to the products it sells. In this new context LactAçores markets new concepts in the dairy sector as well as new products.

Being one of the largest, most financially sound and best performing companies in the Azores, it offers a wide range of products that helped raised the profile of the islands' products.

The quality of the products is a result of the strict quality control system used, which made them suppliers of excellence who bring the finest quality products to consumers' table.

LactAçores' operating structure consists of four depots on the islands and in mainland Portugal that are fitted with the latest storage units and preservation technology. There was also a big investment in a fleet of vehicles designed to transport dairy products. Therefore the company is able to ensure perfect storage conditions in line with the most demanding food safety practices. These depots were designed to supply the markets and are strategically located on the islands of São Miguel, São Jorge and Faial, as well as within the Vila Franca de Xira logistic facilities in mainland Portugal.

Our logistic structure aims to deliver our products to our clients in perfect condition, and with the high quality levels they had when they left our cooperatives in the Azores.

All LactAçores business activities, in particular the sale and distribution of food products, are ISO 9001:2008 certified. This is an internationally recognized standard that establishes the requirements for an efficient quality management system and the issuing of the certificate shows LactAçores' commitment to satisfying its clients.

ISO 9001 is the international reference standard for the Certification of Quality Management Systems. This certification recognizes an organisation's efforts to ensure the conformity of its products and services, its clients' satisfaction and continuous improvement.
The Quality Management System Certification is applicable to any organisation, regardless of size and sector of activity.

Also, LactAçores is 22000:2005 certified. This standard ensures the elimination of consumer health hazards and the certification recognizes the adoption of preventive measures in the reception, storage, distribution and shipping of dairy products for human consumption at the Vila Franca de Xira depot.

This standard highlights the organisation's efforts to produce quality products that are safe to health, thus building greater client and consumer trust. And through the adopting of the highest food safety standards it eliminates and reduces risks to consumers while optimizing resources and improving self-control efficiency.

LactAçores distributes and sells several types of dairy, but also orange, passion fruit and pineapple juice. As a cooperatives union, the company trades its members products which include milk, butter, Flemish style cheese, cream, matured cheese, PDO cheese and soft cheese, using several brands like Nova Açores, Ilha Azul, Beira, Famoso, Topo, Lourais, Queijo São Jorge, Moledo and Capelinhos. The juices brand is known as Mic-Mac. All names are taken from the Azores Islands and the dairy tradition themselves.
