Holden has been making cars for decades, always ensuring quality, safety and innovation in it's vehicles. The brand became na australian icon and a showcase for the country's growing auto industry.

The history of Holden dates back to 1856 when it started as a saddlery business in South Australia. Today Holden is one of only seven fully-integrated global General Motors operations that designs, builds and sells vehicles for Australia and the world. Holden has its headquarters in Port Melbourne, Victoria, with an engine manufacturing plant on-site and vehicle manufacturing operations in Adelaide, South Australia, and is represented by more than 230 dealerships nationally.

Holden Vehicle Operations (HVO) produces 45 models from six vehicle body styles and two core vehicle 'architectures' for domestic and export customers. For the Australian market, the facility produces the Commodore range of sedans, sportwagon and ute together with the Caprice long-wheel base luxury vehicles. In 2011, Holden's Adelaide plant began production of the Cruze, a small, fuel-efficient global vehicle, which has also helped grow Holden's expertise in small vehicle engineering and manufacturing. HVO includes a press plant and metal assembly operation, body hardware facility, paint shop, plastics operation, body assembly and vehicle assembly operations. 

In 2013, Holden began production of the VF Commodore – the most advanced car ever built in Australia. Incorporating lightweight technology such as aluminium construction and a raft of cutting-edge driver safety and infotainment systems, the VF Commodore sets a new standard for Australian cars. 

The VF Commodore program also marks the return of Holden's retail export campaign to America. Based on the new VF Commodore and manufactured at Holden's plant in Elizabeth, South Australia, the SS is Chevrolet's first V8, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996. 

Holden's Global V6 Engine plant is located in Port Melbourne, Victoria. It opened in 2003 at a cost of $400 million. The state-of-the-art facility gives Holden considerable flexibility in the range of engines it can produce for local and international customers including: 2.8, 3.0 and 3.6 litre variants. Holden exports its V6 engines to South Korea, China and Mexico for a number of GM brands. 

Holden is also a centre of expertise in design and engineering for GM globally. Holden is one of GM's nine global design centres responsible for vehicles such as the Holden Commodore and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as a string of global concept cars for several GM brands. The brand is also the centre of expertise for large, rear-wheel drive vehicles in the GM family as well as a major powertrain engineering centre with expertise in R&D and customer programs in V6 and V8 gasoline, CNG and LPG applications.

Holden currently offers more cars in more segments than ever before, from the Barina small car range with class-leading infotainment, through to the game-changing Volt electric car and the world-class VF Commodore range.
