A REGION OF EXCELLENCE

Alentejo 2020 – the Regional Operational Program to Alentejo for the period between 2014-2020 is the result of the work developed with the cooperation and partnership of different regional representatives from different sectors (political, economic, social, environmental and associations).

Alentejo is a territory in change and there is now a greater ability to encourage the entrepreneurial dynamism and enhance the endogenous resources development, including fundamental aspects for the development of any region, such as qualification and skills, opening possibilities for Alentejo to add it to what was well made in the past to the new challenges and opportunities.

Alentejo 2020 offers a financial allocation of European funds and Structural investment (FEEL) of 1,083,000,000 euros until 2020.

The main purpose of the operational program Alentejo 2020, as it concerns to competitiveness and internationalisation is strengthening the competitiveness of the economy of the region, promoting the improvement of regional performance in three structural vertices; the profile of productive specialization, skills and strategies for SME development and the conditions of business context.

In the field of Human Capital, acting in complementarity with the competitiveness and Internationalisation, it's intended to set the Alentejo region as an area of knowledge, stimulating an economy that focuses on innovation and qualified job and to promote a better adjustment between the skills produced and the demand for the labour market in order to improve the prospects of employability.

In Alentejo, the preservation and promotion of the architectural and environmental heritage are bets for the development of sustainable tourism, increasing worth to the differentiating elements of the region.

The Region bet in the promotion of its potential, the growth and the improvement of the tourist offer, and it is, today a destination that arouses the interest of domestic and foreign tourists.

Gastronomy, wines, regional products, biodiversity, the natural heritage and the built heritage, a rich historical heritage and religious rank and the UNESCO World Heritage constitute an attractive single and a differentiator from the region.

Alentejo 2020 – the Regional Operational Program to Alentejo, has to be a catalyst instrument in innovation and increase of competitiveness of companies in the region and for the region.
