Talking elephant Batyr - a world first, the fact that elephants ability to learn and use human speech to communicate occurred and is described in the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, which was the change in the relations of scientists around the world to this animal species and the emergence of new trends in science.

According to zoo workers and other witnesses, Batyr (hero in the Kazakh language) had the ability to imitate the sounds of the surrounding world - the speech of people, barking of dogs and other noises. The feature Batyr had, was spotted by the staff of the zoo in the winter of 1977 (according to press reports) and began to research in 1979, after what came about several popular science articles and notes in the national press.
